How the work is made, what is on the desk, and the small decisions behind each piece.

Behind the Wildflower Series
The wildflower series started as a way to slow down. I spent a summer walking the same meadow each week and painting whatever was newly in bloom, one plant at a time. Working from lifeAlmost everything in the series was painted from a fresh cutting on the desk in front of me. Working from life means the light changes while you paint, and you learn to commit to a colour before it moves. A plant you draw twice is never the same plant. The field guide at the end of the season collected the best...

Preparing Cotton Paper for Watercolour
Cotton paper behaves differently depending on how you prepare it.
